Met Police Cuts Mooted
A senior Metropolitan Police boss has conceded jobs could be cut and stations shuts in an attempt to save £48m next year.
Deputy Commissioner Tim Godwin said budgetary cutbacks could see civilian detention officers manning custody suites.
Due to "considerable pressures" some stations will be shut, while others are restructured, Mr Godwin said.
He told the London Assembly moves were being made to reduce the impact on front line services.
"In common with all parts of the public sector our budget is facing considerable pressure and is yet to be finalised," the deputy commissioner said.
However, he said cutbacks were yet to be finalised.
Chair of the Assembly's Budget and Performance Committee, John Biggs said: "The police have assured us they will minimise the impact, but we will look for evidence of this as the budget proposals come out."
