Baroness Scotland's Job Saved

The Government's chief legal adviser is to keep her top job, even though she was found to have broken employment laws.

The Attorney General Baroness Scotland was found to have been employing a housekeeper who was an illegal migrant

Lady Scotland fired 27-year-old Loloahi Tapui, from Tonga, when it was revealed she had been living in Britain illegally for five years after overstaying a student visa.

She apologised for the breach adding: "I accept it is my duty to pay the fine and I have done so."

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) began an inquiry into Attorney General Baroness Scotland after it emerged she had employed an illegal migrant.

Previously, the Prime Minister said: "In line with the Ministerial Code I have consulted the Cabinet Secretary and, given the UK Border Agency is satisfied she did not knowingly employ an illegal worker and took steps to check the documents, I have concluded that no further action is necessary given the investigation and action that has already been taken by the appropriate authorities and her unreserved apology."
