About Viewback Antiques and Auctions

Viewback Antiques was established in the early 1970s when, in response to the rising interest in  interior design in London, Geoffrey Simpson, although based in Omagh, Northern Ireland opened a small booth at 119, Portobello Road (Richard Branson occupied 119a - he has moved to higher things since then!).

From this small beginning, contacts were established and materials, sourced mainly in counties Tyrone, Fermanagh & Donegal, were distributed to many major outlets. The demand for pine country furniture and the vernacular was such that containers were dispatched monthly to London and as far away as Germany, Australia and the USA.

There followed a period, in the early 1980s, of processing stripped pine in Omagh, before export.
Demand for Victoriana & Georgian items grew, and in response to this, Viewback Auctions was set up.
Soon, business expanded to such an extent that permanent premises were acquired in Jail Square, Omagh, where an auction room was developed. This property was sold in 2007 and the business moved to its present location at 39, Erganagh Road, Omagh.

Viewback Auctions operates mainly in Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic of Ireland.

It specialises in large scale clearances, chiefly of antiques - this type of sale is traditionally conducted on the premises of the vendor. This eliminates the necessity for removal of articles to the salesroom. It is usually more profitable, as auctions can often be as much about ”who owns or owned, the article” as to the nature of the actual item!

Viewback also conducts specialist sales, the ceramics sale of Belleek in 2007 allowed Viewback Auctions to become the world record holders for prices attained for both Belleek and Coalisland porcelain. In addition, Viewback publications produced the definitive book on Belleek – ‘Belleek In Context’.

The services offered include: online bidding; inventory compilation; probate assessment; insurance evaluation; house and commercial clearances; removals and storage (both locally and internationally); theatrical props hire; set design; demolition; interior design; and, restoration - all at reasonable rates and professionally executed.

Viewback (Antiques, Auctions & Publications) also offer talks and lectures on aspects of antiques and can undertake commission bidding at all major UK and international events.
