£1m Price Tag On Roundabout

Turning a busy road junction into a roundabout will come at a cost - almost a cool £1m.

The Roads Service has said that a 'life-saving' plan to install one at the A26 Moira and Ballinderry roads junction would be an expensive undertaking.

However, residents want to proceed as they said the junction is a nightmare with the £900,000 plus bill 'worthwhile".

According to the Ulster Star newspaper, motorists' complaints have been taken to a Roads Service meeting where a number of safety proposals were identified.

A statement said: "Initial findings have shown that a scheme to provide a roundabout would require large scale earthworks and land take, carriageway realignment and would be a large scale 'Minor Works' scheme costing in the region of £900,000."
