Man Charged With Pensioner's Murder

A 42-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a pensioner eleven years ago.

Coleraine man Norman Moffatt, 73, was walking home after buying a paper in a local shop on Railway Road, Coleraine, on 26 January 2001 when he was stabbed.

He died two months later in hospital on 19 March.

James Alexander McCook, with an address at Stonemill Terrace, Stockport, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates' Court today charged with the murder.

Yesterday Police, who have been investigating the murder of the Northern Irish pensioner, revealed they had arrested a man, in England, in connection with the crime.

Mr McCook was arrested in Stockport on Monday by detectives from the PSNI, working with officers from Greater Manchester Police.

Mr McCook is due to appear in court again on April 16.
