Shared Campuses Funding Announced

A new programme to open funding for the delivery of shared education campuses across Northern Ireland has been launched today.

The shared campuses will be constructed as part of the Executive's 'Together: Building a United Community' initiative, launched by the First and deputy First Minister in May last year.

Education Minister John O'Dowd has said that applications will be accepted until 31 March 2014.

"The Shared Education Campuses Programme will contribute towards the OFMDFM 'Together: Building a United Community' strategy by delivering on the commitment to create ten shared campuses," the Minister said.

"The programme will complement the work already underway on shared education and area planning and will be targeted at infrastructure projects aimed at improving or facilitating sharing initiatives within local schools.

"It will have the potential to bring together a range of schools and aid shared participation in classes, sports and extra-curricular activities."
