Irish Footballer Charged With Drink Driving

Everton and Republican of Ireland star, Darron Gibson, originally from L'Derry, has been charged after allegedly hitting a cyclist and a petrol pump near his home in Altrincham, Manchester.

The former Manchester United midfielder has been accused of crashing his car and fleeing the scene.

The footballer failed to stop after being involved in a collision with a cyclist on Park Road on Sunday.

Gibson was later arrested and taken to police custody for questioning.

According to the Greater Manchester Police he was charged without due care and attention, driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop following the road traffic collision.

He has been bailed and is due to appear at Trafford Magistrates Court on 01 September.

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after five masked me forced entry into the home of an man aged in his 70s, on the Saintfield Road. Police received a report shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, 17th February that between 10pm and 10.30pm on the same evening, five masked men entered a house in the Saintfield Road area.

Man Arrested For Headbutting Female Police Officer
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Newry for assaulting a police officer. While responding to a domestic related report, a local female officer was headbutted to the head, which caused swelling and bruising. The officer was seen by medical staff and her injuries were not more serious and she felt well enough to remain on duty.

Police Investigating Man's Death Following Ballynahinch Collision
The PSNI have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of an elderly man following a collision in Ballynahinch. It it understood that police were called at approximately 4.10pm on Monday 08 April, to reports of the "sudden death"of an elderly man at a quarry in the Newcastle Road area of Seaforde.
