Man Dies In Clay Pigeon Shooting Incident In Co Down

A man has died following an incident at a clay pigeon shooting club in Co Down.

The man, in his 60s, was killed after a firearm was discharged at a clay-pigeon event near Downpatrick on Sunday, 24 July.

His death has been reported as a "tragic accident".

SDLP South Down MP Maragret Ritchie said: "I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death in Downpatrick this afternoon of a man at the scene of a clay pigeon shoot. 


"Undoubtedly, the family and friends of this man are experiencing unspeakable grief and my deepest sympathies are with them at this time.  


"The local community in Downpatrick and further afield will stand shoulder to shoulder with the family of the bereaved and friends on this tragic occasion."


SDLP MLA Colin McGrath said: "This appears to have been a tragic accident and my thoughts and prayers are with the man's family at this time.

"I will be contacting the PSNI and Council to ensure that a full and robust safety investigation is conducted to see if any lessons can be drawn from this terrible event to ensure that such an accident doesn't occur again in the future and to maximise safety at such events."

Body Of Missing Man Discovered In Lake
The body of missing Crossmaglen man Padraig Campbell has been found. The 37-year-old’s body was recovered from a lake in Co Monaghon last night. Campbell, of Drumbroy Road, Castleblaney, has been missing from the 18 March. Gardai have described his death as a tragic accident, however a post-mortem will be carried out.

Man Arrested In Connection With Dromara Assault
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.

Man Dies In Portadown Road Crash
An 18-year-old man has died following a collision in Portadown. The crash happened on the Dungannon Road between midnight and 12.30am on Wednesday, 08 November. The road has been re-opened. Elsewhere, a man, aged in his 30's, has died in a road collision in Co Antrim.
