Rise In NI Population
Northern Ireland's population has risen by 10,500 in the past year, new figures have revealed.
The increase can mainly be attributed to natural growth of 9,000 people (24,400 births minus 15,300 deaths) and net inward migration of 1,500 people, according to statistics published by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).
The level of emigration (people leaving NI to live elsewhere) and immigration (people coming here to live) increased in the year ending mid-2016, by 3.8 per cent and 1.0 per cent respectively.
The statistics also point to the continuing ageing of the population with the number of those aged 65 and over increasing by 2.0 per cent in the year ending mid-2016 to reach 297,800 people.
Population growth in Northern Ireland in the year ending mid-2016 was lower than growth in the rest of the UK.

People in the Northern Ireland are more concerned about money than anywhere else in the country according to Samaritans' annual worries survey 2012. An exclusive YouGov poll for Samaritans shows that 66 per cent of Northern Irish people placed worries about money in their top five, and 17 per cent above the UK average.

NI's Daily Prison Population Fell By 2.2%
Northern Ireland's average daily prison population fell by 2.2% during 2017/18 to 1,439, according to the latest Prison Population report published by the National Statistics Office (NSO). The report looks at the average daily prison population and the number of receptions into Northern Ireland Prisons for the financial year 2017/18.

2.3% Rise In Overall Crime
There has been a 2.3% rise in overall crime, according to the PSNI's annual crime statistics. Crime across Northern Ireland have risen from 102,746 in 2013/14 to 105,072 in 2014/15, which represents 57 crimes per 1,000 population, compared with a level of 84 crimes per 1,000 population when crime was at its highest level in 2002/03.
