Appeal Issued After Man Found Dead In South Belfast

Police are appealing for information after a man was found dead at Shaws Bridge in south Belfast.

His body was recovered from the water on Friday, 14 July. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

The PSNI have released images of some of his clothing.

Superintendent Melanie Jones said: "We believe someone out there must know who this man is. He is in his fifties, around 5' 8" tall and was wearing navy blue jeans, a dark belt with a rectangular buckle, a black t-shirt, and silver and navy trainers in a men's size 10. We have today issued images of some of the items he was wearing in hopes that someone may recognise them.

"This male was not carrying any identification and was not wearing any distinctive jewellery, nor does he have any tattoos or piercings. He was however wearing two compression bandages on his left upper arm, and bears an appendix scar. We are hoping that these few details may strike a chord with someone and allow us to find out who this man is.

"I would ask anyone who believes they know this man's identity to please get in touch. Do you recognise the description or the clothing?

I am also appealing to those with male family members or friends that may match this description that you have not seen in recent days, to please call them or check on them.

"We are not treating this death as suspicious but it is important that we can inform the man's loved ones of his passing."

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder over an attack in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. The victim, aged in his 50s, is in a critical condition after being assaulted at a house on the Ballycastle Road on Monday, 26 September. Four men charged (HOLD)

Police are appealing for information to help find missing man Dean McIlwaine. Mr McIlwaine, 22, was last seen in the Carnmoney Road area in Newtownabbey on Thursday, 13 July. Police and his family are concerned about his whereabouts.

Police in Easter assault appeal
Police today appealed for information following the serious assault of a 19-year-old man in Londonderry on Easter Monday. The incident, which occurred on the Groarty Road between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, left the victim with a fractured jaw an injury which has required the insertion of three steel plates.

Police Appeal Following Attempted Hijacking In Newtownabbey
Police are appealing for information following an attempted hijacking in Newtownabbey on Sunday. The incident occurred in Moreland Avenue at around 1.45am. A taxi driver stopped to ask two men if they had ordered a taxi and while he was talking to them one of the men tried to open the car door which was locked.

Portadown filling station robbery appeal
Police in Portadown have appealed for information following a robbery at a filling station in the Bridge Street area of Portadown on Tuesday July 17. One of two men who entered the shop asked for cigarettes, but he then produced a hammer and demanded money from the till. Police said that the second man was carrying a screw-driver.

Police appeal to find cash machine robbers
Detectives have appealed for information following a robbery in the Nutt's Corner area of Crumlin at around 7am this morning. A cash van crew were making a delivery to a cash machine in a petrol station on the Tully Road when a man carrying a hammer approached one of the men.

Motorcyclist Critical Following Crash In South Belfast
A motorcyclist is in a critical condition in hospital following a road collision in south Belfast. The crash occurred on the Ballymaconaghy Road at around 5.40pm on Friday, 30 September. A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested and has been released on police bail. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

A man has died on a building site in Warrenpoint, Co Down. The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) has been informed. In a statement HSENI said: "Inspectors from HSENI attended the scene immediately and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Man Charged With Murder After Body Found In Lisburn
A man has been charged with murder after a body was found in a car in Lisburn on Monday, 26 September. The body of a man, named locally as Gerry Mulligan, was discovered in the Limehurst Way area. The suspect is expected to appear at Lisburn Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 29 September.

Two people have been charged after police seized £10,000 worth of heroin in Poyntzpass, Newry. A woman, 40, and a man, 49, were arrested after police stopped a car on Church Street on Tuesday, 27 September.

Four Men Charged With Dissident Republican Activity
Four men have been charged in connection with dissident republican activity in Lurgan, Co Armagh. Detectives from Crime Operations recovered a fully prepared Explosively Formed Projectile (EFP) which was ready for deployment in the area last week. The device has since been made safe.

A man has died in a road crash in Co Fermanagh. The one-vehicle collision happened on the Tattymacall Road in Lisbellaw at approximately 5.10pm on Monday, 05 September. The road has been re-opened. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Co Fermanagh man suffers broken nose in robbery
A Co Fermanagh man has suffered a broken nose after being assaulted by two men at his home in Enniskillen. The 65-year-old man was confronted by two men who forced their way into his home on Sunday. They then assaulted him before robbing his home. It is understood that a sum of money was taken during the robbery.
