Belfast man admits to the murder of Maria McConnell
A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a young woman in Belfast two years ago.
Conor McCrory of Grangeville Gardens in Finaghy, South Belfast asked for the murder charge to be put to him when he appeared at Belfast Crown Court on Monday April 8.
He then changed his plea to one of guilty of the murder of Maria McConnell.
Maria, 22, from Coolnasilla Park East, off the Glen Road, was found dead in a house after being missing for nearly two weeks.
She disappeared after visiting a Belfast nightclub on July 14 2000.
Her body was found 13 days later in a terraced house in Canterbury Street in the university area of south Belfast.
With pre-sentence submissions to be heard at the end of this month, McCrory has been in custody for 19 months and could face a life sentence.
In an interview with Belfast newspaper The Irish News, the parents of Maria McConnell said they forgave their daughter’s killer and that they bore no resentment towards him.
“It’s the Christian way to look at things. We don’t have any bitterness. We have been praying for the McCrory family and Conor McCrory”, Mrs McConnell said.

North Belfast Murder Victim Conor McKee Shot A Number Of Times
