McFadden Welcomes Jobs Boost |
|
Fine Gael Longford/Westmeath TD, Nicky McFadden, has said the Athlone Chinese trading hub will bring thousands of jobs to the Midlands and will provide a major boost to Ireland's economy.
"I greatly welcome the news that the planning application for Phase 1 of the proposed Chinese consortium International Trade and Commerce Centre in Athlone has been approved by An Bord Pleanala. The Chinese trading Hub in Athlone will be the largest development in the country and will see Athlone playing a central role in developing business ties between Europe, the US and China.
"Promoting Ireland as a hub for international trading is an integral part of the Government’s Jobs Initiative and I am delighted that Athlone and Westmeath will be leading the way.
"The total number of jobs anticipated in the current Phase is 1,524 operational jobs when the project is up and running. At least two thirds of these will be available to people in Athlone and surrounding areas. During the construction period there will be approximately 1,200 jobs for an estimated period of 18 months. Jobs will be available in such areas as; sales and marketing, legal services, translation, hospitality and catering, building maintenance and general administration."
