Six Held As Dissidents Targeted

An Irish crackdown on dissident IRA terrorists continued over the weekend with the arrest of several suspects.

Six of them remain in custody today in connection with an ongoing Gardaí investigation into the activities of dissident republicans

They were among 10 people arrested over the weekend in counties Louth, Waterford and Wexford.

Two men appeared at a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin on Sundau over charges related to dissident activity.

They have been identified as Peter Butterly, 33, of Cortown, Togher, Dunleer, Co Louth, who was charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Óglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA, on October 8th.

Nicholas Kendall, 20, of Row Street, Wexford, was charged with the unlawful possession of a 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol and nine rounds of ammunition at Cortown, Togher, Dunleer, Co Louth on Friday.

He was also charged with the unlawful possession of a component part for a timing power unit used in an improvised explosive device at The Forge car park, Lower Main Street Dunleer on October 8th.

The court remanded both men in custody until Tuesday when bail applications are expected to be made.

Two other men arrested over the weekend have been released without charge.

Appeal After Masked Men Force Entry Into Home Of Elderly Man
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after five masked me forced entry into the home of an man aged in his 70s, on the Saintfield Road. Police received a report shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, 17th February that between 10pm and 10.30pm on the same evening, five masked men entered a house in the Saintfield Road area.

Men Sentenced For Ballymena Drug And Money Laundering Operation
Three men were sentenced for offences linked to a drugs and money laundering operation in the Ballymena area yesterday, 31 January. At Antrim Crown Court, Troy Carley (27), Neil Lowry (30) and Marc Mitchell (32) were sentenced for a number of offences.

Two Men Arrested In £500,000 Drug Seiure In South Belfast
Two men have been arrested in connection with a £500,000 drug seizure following searches in South Belfast. On Friday, 01 March, detectives from the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch stopped and searched two vehicles in the Lisburn Road area. Class B controlled drugs were recovered from both vehicles which were also subsequently seized.
