Week Ahead Stormiest For Years Says Met
The coming week is expected to be one of the stormiest periods the UK has seen for several years with heavy rain, strong winds and snow for parts of the country.
According to the Met Office on Tuesday, the end of the week in particular could see some very stormy conditions across England and Wales while an Atlantic storm passes over the UK.
Beginning on Monday, the storm will bring wet and windy weather to the whole country, with some particularly heavy rain for parts of Wales and South West England.
Up to 60mm is possible in places, accompanied by gale force winds in the south, where exposed areas could see gusts of up to 70mph.
Tim Hewson, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office, said: “There is some uncertainty in the forecast for later in the week, but there is potential for a significant storm and we are keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops.
“We’ll be regularly updating our forecasts and warnings, so we advise everyone to stay up to date with the latest situation.”
The Met Office said there was also the risk that any part of the UK could see some snow during Tuesday, with the snow likely to settle in on higher ground in parts of central and northern Britain.
Wednesday looks bright and breezy for most places, but early indications are that there is a potential for another storm system to affect parts of England and Wales later on Thursday and into Friday.

Major storm predicted to hit Scotland
Severe weather warnings are in place in northwest Scotland, as a major storm is predicted to hit the region later on today. The Met Office said that “exceptionally strong winds”, with gusts of between 70 – 90mph, were forecast to affect parts of Scotland, northwest of the Great Glen, on Monday evening and overnight.

First autumn storm expected
The first storm of autumn will hit northern and western parts of Britain on Thursday night and Friday morning Met Office forecasters warned today. The intense depression will blow in from the Atlantic on Thursday night bringing high winds and heavy rain, with parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland, northern England and Wales most at risk.

'Windy, Wintry' Weather Expected For UK
In a marked change to the quiet and frosty weather of the winter so far, Met Office forecasters are expecting a mix of windy, wintry weather this weekend and next week. Atlantic weather systems will bring gales to many parts with spells of heavy rain and a mix of hail, sleet and snow showers.

Met Office Issues Snow Warning
After predicting the change to much colder weather, the Met Office has now forecast heavy falls of snow in parts of East Anglia and south-east England. Snow showers later on today and during Friday are likely to become heavy at times, bringing the potential of serious disruption in some areas tomorrow.
