Man Charged Following Hijacking

A man has been charged with a number of offences following a hijacking last week.

Police have said the man, aged 33, has been charged with hijacking, kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated vehicle taking in which a vehicle is driven dangerously, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, dangerous driving, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and threats to kill.

The charges are in connection with a car hijacking in the New Barnsley Park area of West Belfast at around 9pm on Friday night (25 July). It is understood the female driver of a car had been approached by a man armed with a knife and was threatened. Her car, a red Audi, was stolen and later found abandoned in the area of La Salle Drive. She was not injured in the incident.

The accused is set to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court today (28 July).

Man stabbed in car hijacking
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed during a car hijacking in Co Antrim on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Kingsway Complex in Dunmurry at around 10pm. The man was getting into his vehicle when he was approached by another man who demanded his keys.

Police Investigating Man's Death Following Ballynahinch Collision
The PSNI have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of an elderly man following a collision in Ballynahinch. It it understood that police were called at approximately 4.10pm on Monday 08 April, to reports of the "sudden death"of an elderly man at a quarry in the Newcastle Road area of Seaforde.
