Belfast brings in 5.9 million visitors during 2004
The Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau (BVCB) has revealed that 5.9 million visitors came to Belfast in 2004, an increase of 11% on the previous year.
The figures revealed in the Belfast Tourism Monitor research, commissioned by Belfast City Council, also saw out of state overnight visitors up by 19% on last year with the total number of overnight stays rising past the 1 million mark.
Welcoming the figures, Councillor Nelson McCausland, Chair of the City Council’s Tourism and Promotion of Belfast sub-committee said:
“Belfast now enjoys an established reputation in the city break market and this latest significant increase in visitors and associated spend shows just how important tourism is for the economy here.
“This rise in visitor numbers, and in visitor spend, is very good news for Belfast and Northern Ireland tourism as a whole.”
BVCB Chief Executive, Gerry Lennon added: “We have come so far over the last number of years to reach the stage where we are welcoming a significant number of people to Belfast.
“Our ‘Belfast Better Believe it’ marketing campaign has been very effective in capturing people’s imaginations both at home and abroad and our ongoing work in encouraging both leisure tourism and conference business is paying dividends.”

New Cruise Terminal Opens In Belfast
