Further Arrest In Paul Quinn Murder Probe

Irish police investigating the death of south Armagh man Paul Quinn have arrested yet another man - this time in Cavan town.

The man, who is in his 20s, was held at Monaghan Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Mr Quinn died after being lured to a cattle shed to be beaten to death by masked men using iron bars and pick axe handles.

Mr Quinn's family have consistently accused the IRA of being behind the murder, a claim strongly denied by Sinn Fein.

The arrest of the man by the gardaí is only the latest one to date in the investigation into the brutal killing.

A 50-year-old was held at the beginning of September in Dundalk as part of the cross-border investigation into the murder on 22nd October last year.

That arrest meant the number of people detained by the gardaí and PSNI investigators as part of the on-going investigation had then reached eleven, with the latest bringing the total to 12.

All the other people previously arrested in connection with the 21-year-old's death were later released without charge.

The new total is for six people arrested in Northern Ireland and now six in the Republic as well.

There has been considerable controversy on the shocking beating with the body set up to monitor paramilitary ceasefires, the IMC, previously concluding that the killing was arranged by IRA members and their associates in south Armagh.
