Larne Murder Probed

The police have set up a special incident room in Larne and are urging anyone with information to contact them as they probe the violent death of a father-of-two found stabbed in the Co Antrim town.

The victim, named locally as Kenneth Nicholl, was found dumped in an alleyway after being attacked on Saturday night.

His body was discovered in the lane between Herbert Avenue and Waterloo Road, said to be close to his home.

Police said they were keen to talk to anyone who was in the area between 10pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.

While they confirmed last night that they were treating the death as "suspicious" - late on Monday, the PSNI changed the status of case to one of "murder".

It is believed Mr Nicholl - understood to be in his mid-20s - had been stabbed.

A forensics team initially sealed off the area where the body was discovered as they scoured for clues.

The Mayor of Larne Bobby McKee urged police to do more to stamp out Ulster's deadly knife culture.

He said: "This murder is another disturbing illustration of the need for a major crackdown on knife crime and the carrying of knives.

"A family has now been left without a father and my heartfelt sympathies go out to them."
