18-Year-Old Charged Over Explosives Discovery

Northumbria Police have foiled a plot to cause "serious harm" at Newcastle College in Tyneside.

Police have arrested an 18-year-old male in connection with the discovery of homemade explosives at a house in Hamilton Place on Monday.

Named as Liam Lyburd, the teenager has been charged with a total of seven offences, including possessing an explosive substance.

He is due to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates' today (Wednesday).

Students at the college have been urged to attend as usual.

Police are continuing their investigation into the suspicious death of a man in North Tyneside. Emergency services were called to an address in David Street, Wallsend, at 8:05pm on 05 October following reports that a man had been discovered with head injuries in the street.
