Man remanded over student's union shooting

A man has been remanded in custody over a shooting at a concert at Loughborough University.

The shooting took place on March 11 at a concert by US hip-hop star Pretty Ricky, which was held in the university's student union.

Aaron Waller, 21, who was employed as a security guard at the event, was shot in the legs, chest and buttock during the incident, but was treated at hospital and later discharged.

Six people were also injured during the incident and a CS spray canister was also discharged.

Jermain Winston Carty, 29, of Canary Grove in Birmingham, was arrested in the Huddersfield area on July 15 and was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life on Monday.

He appeared before magistrates at Melton Mowbray on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody until October 23 when he is due to appear before Leicester Crown Court.

Man remanded over Pc shooting
A man has been remanded in custody charged with the attempted murder of a police officer in Wolverhampton. Pc Geoff King, 33, was on plain-clothes duty, when he was shot twice in the shoulder on Saturday night in the city centre. He remains in hospital after having surgery on his left shoulder.

Man remanded in custody charged with Pc shooting
A man has been remanded in custody today charged with attempted murder over the shooting of policewoman Rachael Bown. Trevon Kyron Thomas, 24, from Bilborough in Nottingham was also been charged with possessing a firearm. There was no application made for bail. He was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Friday morning.

'Grime' Concert Shooting Appeal
Detectives at Scotland Yard have appealed for photos taken at an event in Colindale on Saturday night after it ended with a man shooting three people. The event was taking place to celebrate the first anniversary of 'Grime Daily' at a venue in Capitol Way, Colindale.

University gunman was 'disturbed loner'
The gunman who shot dead 32 people at a US college has been described as a loner, whose college work was "disturbing". Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old from South Korea, who had been resident in the US since 1992, was an English student at Virginia Tech who lived on campus.

PC shooting suspect remanded
A 19-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky earlier this month. Yusuf Jama, from north Kensington, London, appeared before magistrates in Leeds on Wednesday. He was also charged with robbery and firearms offences. He is due to reappear in court on December 7.
