About Lifeline - NI crisis helpline and counselling service

Lifeline 0808 808 8000 is the free-phone crisis helpline and counselling service for people who are experiencing distress or despair. No matter what your age or where you live in Northern Ireland, if you are (or someone you know is) in distress or despair, Lifeline is here to help.

People living in Northern Ireland can call Lifeline on 0808 808 8000. Deaf and hard of hearing Textphone users can call Lifeline on 18001 0808 808 8000. Calls to Lifeline are free to people living in Northern Ireland who are calling from UK landlines and all mobiles.

Lifeline counsellors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to listen and help, in confidence.

Lifeline counsellors are experienced in working with trauma, suicide, self-harm, abuse, depression and anxiety. You will receive immediate help on the phone. Should you need further support, we can provide a face-to-face counselling appointment in your local area within seven days.

Lifeline also provides support and guidance to families and carers, concerned friends, professionals, teachers, youth workers, clergy and communities. Remember, Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Just call.

The Lifeline helpline is funded by the Department of Health and is managed by NI counselling charity Contact, under license to the Public Health Agency.

At present, Lifeline cannot respond to online requests for help and support.

Contacting Lifeline
If you are (or someone you know is) in immediate physical danger through self-harm and in need of urgent medical attention, then please call emergency services on 999.

When you are (or the person you know is) out of immediate danger, it would be a good idea to contact Lifeline for help, support and useful services to move forward and recover. You can contact Lifeline before you contact emergency services, but you will get medical help faster if you phone emergency services directly on 999.

Anyone of any age living in Northern Ireland can call Lifeline free of charge on 0808 808 8000 if they are experiencing distress or despair. The Lifeline helpline is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Ths service sounds great in theory. However there "counsellors" do not have time to listen attentively. Their advice is purile and unhelpful. They're not very patient either.
