About Narrow Water Equestrian Centre

Michael Boyd is a professional rider, producing dressage horses, schooling youngsters for competitions and coaching riders of all levels.

Michael trained for many years with Carolyn Mellor (Vision Sport Horses) attaining BHS Stage 3 and NVQ Level 2 in Horse Care, riding and Knowledge. He has worked for many years within the equine industry and has achieved many successful results over the years in various equine disciplines.

A highlight of his career, working as a liveried helper at the Royal Mews, Michael schooled young horses, took part in ceremonial parades and competed on HM the Queen’s horses. A role which demanded fitness, dedication and attention to detail, Michael excelled and left the Mews to set up on his own, wishing to impart the knowledge and expertise he has spent years nurturing to his clients.

More recently Michael has been trading as Boyd Equestrian, teaching clients, providing competition Livery, schooling horses for clients and producing horses for sale.

He has had success in multiple disciplines and has competed at shows in England and all over Ireland. Since being self employed Michael has competed successfully in Dressage, Working hunter, Showing and Eventing. He won the Eventing Ireland league in 2014/15 with Ballyalt Comet. He has also been a previous winner of the Winter National Championship in Dressage and been the leading rider in many other dressage festivals and competitions.

Michael is a dedicated and hard working professional, many clients over the years have gone on to achieve great results and have given him solid testimonials.

Lessons

Group Lessons
Michael is available for lessons on a group basis, however numbers will be limited to ensure quality. Clinics will be run throughout the year and will be advertised in advance. Watch out for our courses coming soon.

Private Lessons
Michael will also be available for one to one lessons. These must be booked in advance. Michael is available, by prior arrangement, for lessons at your own home. To discuss your requirements and to book please call 07815 653599.

Livery
Livery at Narrow Water is available on a Full, Part or DIY basis with use of our large sand school and access to the miles of hacking within the estate's private forest. Facilities also include floodlit outdoor arena, kitchen/tea area, bathroom, parking and tack/feed storage.

All year round turn out together with a clipping and trimming service ensure we provide for your every possible need. Please ask us for more details. We strive to ensure every client is happy and our service is totally adaptable.

Competition Livery
Michael provides a competitively priced service for owners wishing for their horse / pony to compete within a variety of disciplines. Ask for more details.

Come and learn to ride with us
Learn to ride or improve your skills in the beautiful surroundings of Narrow Water Castle Estate. Group lessons are available for all abilities. Our horses and ponies are part of the family, we are sure you will fall in love with them too!

If you would prefer to have some one on one tuition just let us know, private lessons are available throughout the week, however places will be limited during weekends due to group lessons and trekking.

Trekking is available for groups or individuals, please contact us for more details and prices. Weekends fill up fast so be sure to book in advance.

Before you visit
Please note we operate a strict 24 hr cancellation policy on all lessons and treks.

  • It is strongly advisable to have your own hat, boots and back protector for all lessons, we can provide you with a hat if you do not own one, but it is in your best interests to have the correct safety equipment.
  • Trainers are unsuitable, short boots with a low heel may be worn.
  • No jewellery may be worn.
  • Please also ensure that clothes, jackets are fastened before riding.
  • Please be advised that riding is a risk sport, while we endeavour to take all safety precautions and look after you whilst riding, accidents can happen.
