UK passenger numbers show first rise since September 11
The UK's largest airport operator BAA has revealed that passenger numbers at Britain's airports have shown their first monthly increase since September 11.
BAA revealed that its seven UK airports handled over eight million passengers in February, while passenger numbers improved on all short haul routes, largely because of the increasing competition between low cost scheduled airlines.
However, passenger numbers on North Atlantic routes remain below last year's level, with passenger traffic on the routes at 7.7 per cent lower than in February 2001.
While other long haul traffic was down by 1.4 per cent it has shown a month on month improvement since October last year when it dipped dramatically by 16.4 per cent leading to widespread knock-on effects in the airline industry.

Easyjet enjoy rise in passenger numbers
Low-cost carrier Easyjet has revealed yet another rise in passenger numbers, as the latest figures show the airline's soaring popularity with passenger numbers up by over 30 per cent on the same time last year. Figures for the firm's performance show that the airline carried 700,526 passengers during January 2002.

Budget flights airline Go has revealed an increase in passenger numbers in December last year. Go said that passengers carried in December 2001 rose to 340,384, up from 216,413 in the same period in 2000. This represented an average 70.5 per cent load factor an increase of 1.6 per cent in the number of passenger seats taken.
