Lisburn company cleans up on Channel Tunnel Rail Project
Spillage control specialist Smiley Monroe of Lisburn has won the contract to supply a substantial number of conveyor belt cleaning products to US owned Continental Conveyor of Gateshead for a new tunnel rail project.
The company will help keep underground excavation work clean during the construction of the UK's first new railway for over 100 years. The Channel Tunnel Rail Link, is a new high-speed line running for 68 miles between London and the Channel Tunnel. The new railway promises to boost the economy of south-east England and improve international and domestic travel facilities.
The local company Smiley Monroe will be supplying primary and secondary belt cleaners and associated products for conveyer belts which will be used to remove clay and rock during the construction of the new underground tunnel linking North London and the existing Channel Tunnel rail line south of the River Thames.
Dave Patterson from the country commented on the contract and said that the timing of the very important order was perfect and the company has recently been selected as the sole agents in the UK and Ireland for the Scorpio range of conveyor belt cleaning equipment and associated products.
The company also has longstanding links with Scorpio Conveyers and have gained the exclusive rights to supply its primary and secondary scrapers because of its technical expertise and experience.
Smiley Munroe, which has depots throughout Britain is headquartered at Lisburn, has over 20 years in the manufacture and installation of and technical support for conveyor system products.
