There has been a further incident in which gangs have used diggers to demolish walls and steal cash machines. Last month, there were three similar incidents in the space of just four days. This time, thieves have used a digger to steal a cash machine from the forecourt of a filling station in Dungannon. It happened at the premises on the Ballygawley Road at 2.45am on Wednesday. Police said they believed the robbers escaped in a van towing a trailer and have appealed for witnesses.
Deny Counterfeit Funding Call
People who buy counterfeit goods are funding organised crime gangs in other criminal activities including drug dealing, human trafficking and prostitution. That's according to the Chair of the Organised Crime Task Force (OCTF) Paul Goggins. He said that the OCTF has this week launched its hard-hitting Christmas advertising campaign, urging the public not to buy counterfeit goods. The campaign highlights the very real links that exist between the sale of fake goods and the funding of organised crime. "Those involved in the black economy of counterfeiting may be selling fake DVDs or CDs to your children today, but tomorrow it could be drugs," he warned.
Bank 'Set Aside' Creates Loss
It emerged yesterday that the Northern Bank's reported loss of £7.5m for the third quarter of 2009 would not have happened had the banker not had to set aside £23m to cover loans it thinks might not be repaid. The bank actually made an operating profit of £15.5m, and actual write-offs for the year to date are much lower at £5.3m. Chief executive Gerry Mallon said there was room for "cautious optimism" as the provision for potential losses has reduced in this quarter and total income for the third quarter of 2009 was £51.7m.

But Ms Ruane said removal of the exam was long overdue.
