Body of Brendan Rushe found in Donegal Bay

The search for missing 15-year-old Castlederg teenager Brendan Rushe has ended with the discovery of his body in Donegal Bay.

The body was pulled from the water at around 11am on Wednesday February 27 and taken to Letterkenny General hospital for post mortem examination, where it was identified by a member of the Rushe family.

Gardaí have made clear that a full investigation involving the State Pathologist will begin if there is any suggestion of foul play.

The search began 10 days ago when Brendan disappeared after attending a nightclub in the Abbey Hotel in Donegal Town.

At its height the search involved both British and Irish soldiers, police on both sides of the border, helicopters and hundreds of local volunteers.

Among the last sightings of Brendan was in the early hours of Monday morning by Garda officers who briefly spoke with him. The teenager told the Gardaí that he was going to get a bus home, but he was possibly next seen by the proprietor of a guest house outside Donegal town, who reported a boy matching Brendan's description knocking on the door at 6am. The door was not answered, and the owner believes the boy headed off back towards the town.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Garda at Donegal Town on: 00353 73 21021, or the PSNI incident room in Castlederg on: 028 7137 9835.
