Jersey flights to cease following closure of Fermanagh Airport

Tour operators CI Holidays have informed the management of City of Derry Airport that they are to cease their Jersey Holiday Programme during the summer months.

The suspension of Jersey package holiday flights from City of Derry Airport follows on from the recently announced closure of St Angelo Airport in Fermanagh, which was involved in the jointly operated service.

City of Derry Airport Manager Seamus Devine said it was regrettable that the holiday service to Jersey, which operated over the past eight years, would no longer available to customers in the North West. He said package holidays to Majorca were proving even more popular with summer 2002 bookings up on last year.

Last year, over 5,000 passengers from the North West holidayed in Majorca, an increase of 15 per cent on the previous year.

Mr Devine said: “Jersey has been a very popular destination in the past and it is with deep regret that this service will no longer be available. However, we continue to work with tour operators in an attempt to persuade them to offer new destinations."

Extending his thanks to the tour operators for providing the service over the past number of years, The Chairperson of the Airport Committee, Councillor Cathal Crumley, said he was "confident new destinations would be identified in the near future". (CG/SP)
