TriVirix takeover safeguards Fujitsu Springvale jobs

TriVirix International is to take over Fujitsu’s Springvale facility in Belfast, in a move which is set to safeguard over 50 jobs at the plant.

Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister, Sir Reg Empey, said: “This is to be welcomed in the present economic circumstances. Against a backdrop of the global downturn in the telecom sector, which has forced Fujitsu to review its operation at Springvale, this announcement represents a positive outcome.

“Not only have these jobs been safeguarded, but the needs of TriVirix for additional capacity to produce printed circuit boards has been addressed. This in turn enhances their operation here in the manufacture of high value medical, biotech, electronic and electromedical equipment."

Sir Reg added: “Whilst fully understanding the economic situation that has led to the decision by Fujitsu, it is clearly disappointing that they have not been able to retain their presence in Springvale. However, I do welcome the fact that the company remain committed to their operation in Antrim and the Engineering Centre at Lanyon Place in Belfast.”

TriVirix International is a venture capital funded business, from North Carolina, that provides a full package of contract electronic manufacturing services to the medical device and biotech industries. TriVirix’s market is in high value medical, biotech electronic and electromechanical equipment.

Fujitsu have been experiencing difficulties in the face of the worldwide slowdown and have recently followed through on a number of previously announced jobs cuts. (SP)
