Sandwich Deal Boosts Newry Business

Sainsbury's has this week signed a deal with Newry-based gourmet sandwich company Deli-Lites to supply sandwiches and wraps to all 12 of its Northern Ireland supermarkets and eight petrol forecourt convenience stores.

Deli-Lites is very much a local success story having started with one sandwich bar in Newry to now having seven across NI and the Irish Republic and a growing wholesale business.

Sainsbury's recognised the potential of the business which prides itself on sourcing locally and using free range, ethically sourced products. The company will provide ten lines initially including an American Deluxe sandwich, a Waist Watchers Chilli Chicken sandwich and a Chicken Caesar Wrap.

The contract will see a 5-10% increase in the turnover of the company, which already employs in excess of 70 people across the operation.

Michael McCambley, Northern Ireland Regional Buyer for Sainsbury's said: "We are delighted that Sainsbury's shoppers across Northern Ireland will be able to buy Deli-Lites sandwiches as part of our in store convenience range. We are committed to sourcing locally and Deli-Lites is an excellent example of the quality food service providers on offer in Northern Ireland."

Jackie Reid, Sales Director Deli-Lites said: "This contract comes at a fantastic time for us as we have just moved to a new purpose built facility in Warrenpoint. We hope to employ at least five more people as a result of the new business and in the current climate such a significant sales boost is very welcome. We are thrilled to be working with Sainsbury's.

"We are really looking forward to seeing our 10 lines in store and to growing our relationship with Sainsbury's," she said.
