Dundalk Bid For Truck Stop Motel

The newly completed cross-border dual carriageway at Newry is already paying dividends in the Irish Republic.

A motor park to cater for the large number of commercial vehicles travelling along the M1 motorway from Dublin to Belfast has now been earmarked for an area north of Dundalk.

Evolve Investments Ltd, trading under the name Euro Services, is seeking permission from Louth County Council to build a truck stop and motel at Carrickarnon, Dundalk.

The proposed development will also include a motel style accommodation facility, laid out in a two-storey building measuring 1,187 square metres.

This will include 30 bedrooms, a reception and dining area, a meeting room and associated customer and staff services.

The vehicular services facility will also include a secure compound for day and night time parking of heavy good and commercial vehicles while there will also be a single storey vehicle maintenance building incorporating a tyre repair centre.

It is also proposed that the development will include forecourts including four fuel pumps for heavy good vehicles and 12 fuel pumps for light duty vehicles with two separate overhead canopies.

There will also be a retail unit incorporating a shop and delicatessen area as well as a drive through restaurant, service yard, storage areas and public toilet facilities.

Among the other facilities earmarked for the site are a car wash facility, driver resting areas, public picnic areas and secure children's play areas.
