Translink wins European design award
Translink the Northern Ireland public transport company has won a major European design accolade.
The European Commission’s Breaking Barriers Award recognises outstanding ‘Design for All’ achievements made by European businesses and organisations that provide, or are working to provide, improved access for people with disabilities.
Translink won the Travel and Leisure category of the Breaking Barriers Award for its website www.translink.co.uk/accessibility. Launched in March 2001, the website provides a fully interactive journey planner.
The site features an accessibility section which provides information for users who may be nervous or apprehensive about travelling. The website was developed as a result of a study commissioned by Translink which identified poor information as a barrier to travel for all passengers including those with disabilities.
The Breaking Barriers Award took place to celebrate this year’s European Day of Disabled People on December 3, supported by the European Commission in collaboration with the European Disability Forum. (MB)
