Man arrested in connection with “frenzied” stabbing attack
Two women were viciously attacked and stabbed by a man in Belfast City Centre as they were walking home.
The attack happened in Winecellar entry in High Street around 1am on November 15 when two women aged 28 and 33 were on their way home after a night out. One woman was indecently assaulted earlier by a man who then came back and stabbed her in the back before the attacker turned on the second woman and stabbed her repeatedly. He then made off in the direction of High Street. Both women are said to be in a stable condition in hospital.
One is being treated for a deep stab wound to her back and the other has 13 stab wounds to her body. A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack.
Police have said the attack was “unprovoked and frenzied.” Chief Inspector Tom Haylett said: “One of the females was indecently assaulted in a bar. A short time later, he approached the women again and without provocation violently assaulted both the females, stabbing one in the back and another repeatedly about the body.”
Chief Inspector Haylett has also appealed to any witnesses of the attack to contact the police. (AMcE)
