A man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident which took place on the Whitewell Road in North Belfast on Sunday evening.

During the attack a man was stabbed repeatedly in the back, neck and face during sectarian clashes in north Belfast.

The victim, who is in his 40s, is in a stable condition in hospital after being stabbed four times - twice in the back, once to the back of the neck and once above the left eyebrow in the attack.

The incident took place on Sunday March 14 on the Whitewell Road area.

The police said that they were treating the attack as as an attempted murder and as a sectarian incident. The attack took place as nationalists and loyalists were involved in violent scenes in the area.
