Six fishermen saved in County Antrim lifeboat rescue

Six fishermen on a day trip have been rescued by the Redbay lifeboat at Cushendall.

The lifeboat was dispatched after the men's boat suffered engine failure and started taking in water during gale force seven conditions two miles north of Cushendun on Sunday November 4.

Lifeboat personnel transferred four of the fishermen to Cushendun before taking the boat and two remaining fishermen into harbour.

None of the men required hospital or medical treatment and were safely returned to Belfast on Sunday night.

The Cushendall Red Bay Lifeboat, which is staffed by four volunteers, answers around 30 emergency and distress calls along the north coast of Antrim every year. (AMcE)
