Durkan announces new jobs for Derry

Minister of Finance and Personnel, Mark Durkan, has announced the creation of up to 40 new jobs for Derry.

The jobs, which will be phased in during the next 18 months, will be within Civil Service Pensions Branch of the Department of Finance and Personnel.

Making the announcement during a visit to Waterside House in Derry, Mr Durkan said: "I fully appreciate the benefit of public sector jobs on the social and economic development of areas in which they are located and of their potential as a means for regenerating disadvantaged areas.

“A Strategic Review of Government Office Accommodation is currently being carried out, in line with the Programme for Government. The scope for dispersal of civil service jobs is being considered within the Review.

"While today’s announcement is not directly connected to that review it is good news for Derry. My officials are currently considering a number of options to meet the related additional accommodation needs of Civil Service Pensions." the Minister added.

The jobs have been created following a review of the delivery of personnel services across the civil service and are in part due to forthcoming changes in pension arrangements and administration in the Civil Service. (SP)
