'Gifting' Of Military Sites Agreed
Arrangements for passing on the ownership of former military sites to the NI Executive that were identified under the Hillsborough Agreement have been confirmed.
The handing over of sites such as the ex-RAF Shackleton base at Ballykelly are part of a 'gifting' deal, reached by Stormont First Minister, Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
This provided for the gifting of a number of such locations to either the Department of Education or the First & Deputy First Ministers Office (OFMDFM), mainly for sale in order to raise proceeds for exceptional resource pressures.
DUP Leader Peter Robinson commented: "The St Patrick's barracks site in Ballymena will transfer to OFMDFM, as will a portion of the St Lucia base in Omagh.
"OFMDFM will market these sites for sale as soon as possible. The Shackleton base at Ballykelly will be the first to be sold, going on to the market immediately. The proceeds from this sale will go straight to the Executive. The remaining sites will be put up for sale as soon as possible."
Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness added: "This is further progress on the issues identified at Hillsborough. The former military site in Omagh is being gifted explicitly for use as a new multi-school educational campus, comprising the entire Lisanelly base in Omagh and the adjacent floodplain at the St Lucia base.
"This land will be transferred directly to the Department of Education."

Three MoD Sites In NI Marked For Closure
Three Ministry of Defence (MOD) sites in the NI are to be closed as part of UK-wide restructuring announced by Defence Secretary, Sir Michael Fallon. Ballykinler, Abercon and the Newtownards Airfield site are to be closed alongside 56 other MOD sites.

Family escape injury in petrol bomb attack
A family have escaped injury after their home was attacked with petrol bombs in Londonderry last night. Two devices were thrown at the family's home in the loyalist Fountain Estate at around 7.35pm. It is believed the devices were thrown from the nearby Bishop Street area.

Almost 50 Staff Made Redundant In Co Antrim
A chicken processing business in Co Antrim has closed with the loss of almost 50 jobs. HK Dickey was run from premises on the Granagh Road in Cullybackey and employed 48 staff members, who have all been made redundant.
