Craigavon Alert Closes College

There's a second security alert underway in Co Armagh this morning with news that a suspicious object has been discovered in Craigavon.

Police said the apparent device was abandoned on the Tullygally Road.

That road has now been closed with the closure of Brownlow Integrated College also resulting from the incident.

Earlier, the police said there's a security alert underway in Lurgan after a warning that a bomb had been left on waste ground at a disused factory in the town.

Searches are being carried out at the old Glendinning factory.

Police said a number of homes in the nearby Allen Hill Park area may have to be evacuated.

The alert is just one of a continuing series of incidents as the security situation remains fragile.

On Friday, there was disruption in the Andersonstown area of west Belfast following the abandonment of a car in Navan Green.

Police said at least one controlled explosion was carried out on the red van that PSNI officers said might have been involved in criminal activity in the Belfast area.

However, nothing suspicious was found and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

There were also alerts in Londonderry and another along the Co Fermanagh border.

Against this backdrop, the PSNI are this morning treading carefully as they deal with the twin security alerts after the murder of a 25-year-old PSNI constable who was killed by a booby-trap bomb which exploded under his car in Omagh on Saturday.
