Bursary awards scheme boosts access to learning
Dr Sean Farren, Minister for Employment and Learning has praised a “unique community and business partnership which helps young people to go further in their studies.”
The Minister was speaking at the presentation of the Aisling Bursaries Awards to students from West Belfast. He said: “For the second year running this unique link-up between community organisations and local businesses in West Belfast has won full marks from aspiring students.
“The Aisling Awards initiative complements fully the range of measures recently announced by my department to improve the support available for both Further and Higher Education students.
“I am particularly pleased to support the Aisling Awards, as there is a very strong parallel between the principles underlying this project and my ambition as Minister to promote access to education and training opportunities among all of our people.
“Such access is central to the work of the Executive and to my Department in particular. I am determined to use all available resources to ensure that all barriers to learning are removed and that as far as we can we work to promote equality of opportunity.” (CL)
