Army On Display

A successful Brigade and NI Garrison Families Day has been held at Ballykinler Army camp. Hosted by 38 (Irish) Brigade it was an 'operational montage' using the ranges and training village at the well-known Co Down camp. Army bomb disposal equipment was also on show, with the opportunity to even 'pilot' one of the famous robots, (pictured). The display was part of a day of special events including a Beating of Retreat, exhibitions, sport and 'fun for family' experiences. Many of the soldiers taking part have served on overseas operations - including Afghanistan - with many also preparing to deploy again overseas later this year. As well as regular soldiers from across NI, all reserve units (TA) based across NI were involved in this inaugural event.

Pipe Bomb Found

A pipe bomb has been discovered on Saturday close to Annalcoy, Co Down with local people forced to leave their homes after a suspicious object was found. Army bomb experts carried out a controlled explosion and confirmed it was a pipe bomb. Also over the weekend, detectives in Newtownabbey are appealing for information after a suspicious object was found at the Blackstown Road, Crumlin area on Friday, shortly after 8.10pm. It was reported that a firearm and ammunition was discovered wrapped in bed linen close to a house in the area. Army bomb disposal officers were tasked and the weapon was taken away for further forensic examinations. Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Newtownabbey CID on 0845 600 8000. Assault Investigated

Detectives in west Belfast are appealing for information after a report of a serious assault at the Arundel Walk area on Saturday, 30th July. At around 10.45pm, it was reported that three unknown men entered a house in the area armed with iron bars. A male in the house at the time was assaulted and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to a leg injury and bruising. It is not believed that his injuries are life threatening. Viable Pipe Bomb Found In North Belfast
A viable pipe bomb has been found in north Belfast, police have confirmed. Police and army bomb experts discovered the device in the garden of a house in Shore Crescent on Monday. The pipe bomb has been removed for further examination. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Lisburn On Alert As Pipe Bomb Explodes
There's an ongoing security alert in progress in Lisburn, Co Antrim after a pipe bomb device exploded at 9.30am this morning. A family escaped injury in the blast and the PSNI have said this afternoon that is not clear if the explosion occurred when the car drove over it, or that it had fallen off the vehicle.

Ballykelly Alert An 'Elaborate Hoax'
Police have described a security alert in Ballykelly, Co Londonderry, as an "elaborate hoax". On Thursday evening, army bomb experts were called to the Carnamuff Road following reports of suspicious objects in the area. A number of houses in the area were evacuated during the alert.

CO DOWN GAA CLUB DESTROYED BY FIRE
A Gaelic Athletic Association club in Co Down has been destroyed in what is suspected to have been an arson attack. The fire service were alerted to the blaze at Attical Gaelic Football Club late on Thursday 20 July but were unable to halt the fire, which swept through the timber structured building, destroying its contents.

Overnight gun and pipe bomb attacks
A number of people have escaped injury after a series of gun and pipe bomb attacks on their homes in County Antrim. A ten-year-old boy escaped in jury after shots were fired into a house at Mounthill Drive in Cloughmills, County Antrim.
