Cancer Care Volunteers Sought
The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) is urgently seeking new volunteers to help provide vital support for cancer patients and their families in the Belfast area.
The charity is on the hunt for people with a little extra time on their hands and who would like to help with children's storytelling, fundraising and health promotion.
Morag Chambers, Volunteer Co-ordinator with UCF, said: "Our volunteers are an extremely valuable asset and we couldn’t provide our full range of services without them. If you have time to spare, enjoy being part of a team, would like to gain hands-on experience in fundraising and events, and want to help us in the fight against cancer, we welcome your help.
"At UCF we have a range of volunteering opportunities available. We are actively looking for health promotion volunteers to give advice and information about reducing the risk of cancer and choosing a healthy lifestyle, help with the smooth running of fundraising events from sponsored walks to salsa dancing, and storytellers who will visit primary and nursery schools."
Fundraisers are vital and raise thousands of pounds each year for UCF, which is spent on cancer patients in Northern Ireland, so, collectors for various events are always in big demand.
"We also need volunteers to help promote healthy living by going out to health fairs at venues throughout Northern Ireland to talk to people and provide information. The more help we have, the more events we can attend each month," Morag added.
"Our storyteller volunteers travel to primary or nursery schools to read 'Genevieve and the Farmyard Olympics' to children. They are responsible for telling them about the importance of diet and exercise and engaging them in an entertaining way, as well as answering any questions about the work of UCF.
"This role is ideal for people who enjoy working with children and are comfortable reading aloud in front of groups," she said, suggesting that anyone with at least one weekday per month to spare and who enjoys working with people, to contact UCF on
