Belfast to benefit from Debenhams upgrade

A significant upgrade is underway at the Belfast outlet of major retail group Debenhams, which is set to create 65 new jobs.

The upgrade to the Belfast store represents one of the largest modernisation schemes ever undertaken by Debenhams, who made their Northern Ireland retail debut in 1990 with the opening of their outlet in the Castle Court Shopping Centre in Belfast city centre.

The refurbished store, which is being developed by Ballymena-based construction company Pattons, will feature a completely revamped cosmetics hall with an extended roster of brands on offer, including new arrivals MAC, Bobbi Brown and Aveda. The existing range of “Designers at Debenhams” will also be extended, while a personal shopper suite, a family-friendly restaurant and a Gold Card Lounge will be introduced.

Debenhams Store Manager and Past President of the Belfast chamber of commerce, Steve Hall, said that the redevelopment reflected “the continued success of the store since its opening” over a decade ago.

He added: “We look forward to welcoming our existing and new customers to the enhanced store and are confident they will be delighted with the exciting range of new brands and customer services available.”

The refurbishment is scheduled for completion in November. (CL)
