Twitter To Set Up Irish Office

In what is being hailed as a "massive win", a social networking company is to establish an international office in Ireland.

It was announced by IDA Ireland this morning that Twitter would locate its new office in Dublin.

IDA Chief Executive Barry O'Leary said Twitter's decision to locate in Dublin would be a fantastic addition to Ireland's digital media cluster.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton welcomed the announcement, which he said was a massive win for Ireland.

However Minister Bruton said there had been no indication yet as to the number of jobs that would be created.

Other companies such as Facebook and Google started off small in Ireland, before growing rapidly.

"Despite our difficulties, Ireland has real strengths as an economy,"said Mr Bruton.

Elsewhere consulting group PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is to give a significant employment boost across Ireland.

The consulting company is seeking to recruit almost 300 people. 250 of these will be part of its graduate recruitment programme, while it is also looking for 40 professionally qualified people to fill "strategic roles" across the firm.

The majority of the jobs will be in the Dublin office at Spencer Dock but positions are also available in Cork, Limerick, Galway, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford.

Meanwhile a multinational games company called Bioware Ireland has announced plans to set up a customer service office in Galway.

It is understood that 200 jobs are being created immediately. Half of those have already been filled.

When BioWare bosses announced plans to open their first European customer base, they said Galway was chosen because it had the right mix of solid technology infrastructure and international recruitment opportunities.

The company, a division of Electronic Arts, will provide support for the multiplayer online game, Star Wars.
