Man Arrested After Stabbing Attack

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in the back in south Belfast.

The incident happened in the Fountainville Avenue vicinity at approximately 1.40am.

The 29-year-old victim was taken to hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.

The suspect was arrested shortly after in the Claremount Street area.

South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo has expressed deep shock about the incident.

She said: "I am absolutely appalled at this news. I hope that the man who was injured makes a full and swift recovery and my thoughts are with him. This is a deeply troubling incident and must have been a very harrowing ordeal for the man who was attacked.

"I would appeal to anyone who has any information on this attack to contact police immediately."
