'Hammer Horror' Attack Condemned
A West Belfast councillor has said his community is appalled at a weekend attack on a 13-year-old girl with a hammer, just yards away from her own home.
The teenage victim was injured after a hammer was thrown at her in the Poleglass area of west Belfast, hitting her in the head.
The girl was walking in the Ardcaoin Green area on Sunday at about 5.30pm when the attack happened.
The hammer struck the side of her head, causing a half-inch gash.
Tim Attwood, from the SDLP said: "There is revulsion among people in West Belfast that a young girl has been attacked in such a brutal and vicious way and many parents are now fearful of letting their children out of their sight.
"Whoever is responsible is a danger to our society and must be punished for their incomprehensible actions.
"People here want a community where children and older people are safe - we do not want this type of terror on our streets," he said.
"We must stand strongly together against this violence and I urge anyone with information about this attack to pass it onto the police."
The PSNI are keen to identify two youths wearing dark-coloured hoodies, who were in the area at the time of the incident, and have appealed for information.
