Woman Sexually Assaulted At Beechmount Leisure Centre Site

Sinn Féin councillor for the Lower Falls has called the site of the old Beechmount Leisure Centre to be secured following reports of a serious sexual assault on a woman, allegedly by two men in the early hours of Monday.

Speaking today Cllr Steven Corr said: "This site has been a magnet for underage and public drinking and drug taking for almost a year now. Local residents; a local fold for the elderly and a local school have had to deal with the aftermath on a daily and nightly basis, which peaks at the weekend.

"This assault is a serious incident at we are calling for the site to be properly secured. Locally the circumstances surrounding this attack are unclear, but it has angered and frightened local people who have watched the deterioration of this large site, since the leisure centre closed.

"We have been working with local stakeholders to try and resolve this issue, and this ugly turn of events will strengthen our resolve for a long term solution. In the meantime, I would call on local parents especially, to exercise parental control and ensure that their children are not in, on or around this site."

Police want to speak to two women whom the victim approached for help on the Falls Road, close to the junction with La Salle Drive.
