VISITOR INCREASE TO TOURISM CENTRE
NEW figures from the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau (BVCB) show a significant increase in traffic through the city’s tourist information centre.
More than 44,000 people have visited the BVCB’s new Welcome Centre since it opened its doors just three months ago and June’s total of 21,357 visitors represents an improvement of 69 per cent on last year.
Mary Jo McCanny, Director of Communications with the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau, believes that the figures are good news for Belfast and Northern Ireland as a whole. She said: “The latest figures are very encouraging and show that the Belfast Welcome Centre has been a big hit with tourists and locals alike.
“At a time when tourism comes under the spotlight in Northern Ireland, it is nice to highlight some positive news.
“We are aiming to attract 170,000 visitors to the Welcome Centre in our first year and with 44,462 customers in the first three months, we are well on our way to reaching our target.”
Based in the heart of the city, the Belfast Welcome Centre provides tourists and local residents with an all-Ireland accommodation booking service, tickets for tours and events, a left luggage facility, souvenirs from across Northern Ireland, and a state-of-the-art internet café, the first for a tourist information centre in Ireland. Giant's Causeway Centre Gets Top Eco Rating
The new Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre in Northern Ireland has achieved an 'excellent' rating of 74% in accordance with the UK's BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method). Engineering specialists from global consultancy WYG were commissioned by the National Trust to provide advice on the redevelopment which replaces the existing building.

Belfast Expected To Deliver Most Successful Tourism Year
Belfast is on track to deliver its most successful tourism year to date, according to Visit Belfast. The organisation which promotes the city locally, nationally and internationally, also said that figures for July and August showed no slowdown in visitor interest, with hotels experiencing buoyant demand during the peak summer months.
