BORDER CROSSED IN HOT PURSUIT INCIDENT
RUC officers who attempted to stop a suspicious van in Markethill fired a shot when one man made off across fields in South Armagh.
Police had earlier spotted a suspicious van in Markethill on Tuesday June 26, but when the van did not stop police followed the vehicle from Markethill to the Keady area where it was abandoned.
One man made off on foot across fields and was chased by police who inadvertently strayed across the unmarked border into the Republic of Ireland. One RUC officer discharged a firearm but police say that no-one was injured.
A Garda patrol detained one man and escorted the RUC officers back across the border to their own jurisdiction.
A 31-year-old man was later charged with dangerous driving by Garda.
The Ombudsman's office is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. (SP)

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Dies In Co L'Derry House Fire
A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Police Cancel Appeal For Missing Omagh Man
Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. No further details have been released but police thanked the public for their help.

Man Arrested After Using Van To Attack Police Officers
The PSNI has condemned an incident in which a man used a van to repeatedly ram a police patrol car and attempted to run over an officer in Newry on Saturday, 03 February. Shortly after 11:20pm, officers on patrol approached a man standing beside a white Peugeot van in the Castlekeele Estate area.

Man Arrested In Connection With Dromara Assault
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.
