Pensioner assaulted in west Belfast

A pensioner has been attacked outside a bookmaker's in west Belfast.

The 81-year-old man was in a car on the Springfield Road when he was attacked by two men, one of whom was brandishing a hammer.

He suffered bruising to his arm after raising it to protect himself.

Meanwhile, two men have been injured in an attack at their home in Co Tyrone.

Both father and son were confronted by a group of men after opening their front door on the Derryvale Road on Monday night.

The man and his son suffered several injuries, including a broken arm, after an argument took place. A shotgun was fired at the scene of the incident.

Police are carrying out searches for the gun in the area.

Police Appeal After Man Attacked In Co Antrim
Police are appealing for information after a man was attacked in Ballymena, Co Antrim. The assault happened in the North Road area at around 3.30am on Sunday, 29 January. A gang of four or five men attacked the victim, aged 37. He was taken to hospital where his condition has been described as "serious".

Appeal After Masked Men Force Entry Into Home Of Elderly Man
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after five masked me forced entry into the home of an man aged in his 70s, on the Saintfield Road. Police received a report shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday, 17th February that between 10pm and 10.30pm on the same evening, five masked men entered a house in the Saintfield Road area.

Two men arrested following pensioner robbery
Two men have been arrested in connection to the robbery of a pensioner's home in Co Down yesterday. The 93-year-old man suffered cuts to his ear and an arm injury when he confronted two men who had climbed through a bedroom window at his Hillsborough home at around 8.45am on Tuesday. The robbers escaped with a sum of money.

Four Men Arrested Over Explosive Device In West Belfast Released
Four men arrested in connection with an explosive device in west Belfast last year have been released from custody. The device was found in the Pantridge Road area on 30 October. Three men arrested under the Terrorism Act have been released unconditionally.

Pensioner attacked with meat cleaver
A 65-year-old man suffered head injuries after he was attacked in north Belfast last night. The pensioner was walking his dog in Duncairn Gardens around 9.10pm when a number of men got out of a white Hyundai car and attacked him with a meat cleaver.
