Irish Cement Seeks To Implement 48 Redundancies

Irish Cement Ltd is seeking to implement 48 redundancies at the plant and retain only a skeleton staff of 20 to maintain the facility’s operational capacity.

Irish Cement Group of Unions secretary (Castlemungret), Davey Keane, said: "The management's proposals are unacceptable to the workers. The attempt by management to implement these redundancies is in breach of an agreement reached in May that there would be no job losses at Irish Cement during 2012. There are also a number of other outstanding issues that must be dealt with which management is currently unwilling to even discuss."

Representatives of the workers at the Limerick plant will brief their colleagues from the Irish Cement production plant in Platin, Co. Meath, on the discussions at an Irish Cement Group of Unions meeting in Liberty Hall tomorrow (Wednesday, 5th September).

The Irish Cement Group of Unions includes SIPTU, TEEU and Unite.
