New Policing And Community Partnership Launched
A new policing and community partnership is being launched on Monday.
Belfast City Council has announced the new Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) will be formally launched at the Ulster Hall at noon on October 22.
The event is open to public participation and is aimed at improving relationships between communities and the police.
Councillor Jim McVeigh, chairman of Belfast PCSP, said: "We recognise that many communities face very real difficulties with crime and antisocial behaviour and we are absolutely committed to playing our part in addressing these difficulties.
"We have recently awarded grants to over 40 local groups to deliver community safety initiatives in their area and we want to continue to engage with communities to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, and to help build relationships between communities and the police."
The PCSP was established in April and has four district partnerships working at a local level.
The group is supported by the city council and is overseen regionally by the Department of Justice and the Northern Ireland Policing Board.
A Christmas crime prevention and safety event will also be held at City Hall on December 5 from 10am.
Local launches for north, south, east and west Belfast will also be launched. More information can be found at belfastcity.gov.uk/pcsp.

Man Wanted In Lithuania Arrested In Magherafelt
The PSNI have arrested a 23-year-old man in Magherafelt wanted in Lithuania to face charges of human trafficking. The man was arrested by officers from the Police Service's local policing team in Magherafelt, with assistance from the International Policing Unit. He is expected appear before extradition court in Belfast later today.

The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tom Ekin, will tomorrow take a walk down memory lane when he launches a special exhibition telling the human story of one of the city’s most famous landmarks. The ‘Wall of History’ tells the story of the Gasworks through the stories of the people who worked there and those who lived in the area.
